Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, a molecule that every athlete should be familiar with! These amino acids play a crucial role since our muscles and cells are made up of amino acids that help maintain their structure. They also contribute to skin and hair renewal, play a role in wound healing, but their most important function is undoubtedly the transport and storage of nutrients!
There are two types of amino acids: essential and non-essential.
The essential (or indispensable) A.A. cannot be synthesized by our body, so we must assimilate them through our diet. While the non-essential (or dispensable), can be completely synthesized from other amino acids in our body.
There are different types of amino acids and each have their specificity, we present you 3 of them :
L-glutamine
This one is very important because although it is naturally present in your body, its quantity will decrease after your training sessions and will increase if you rest sufficiently. The interest of this amino acid is the fact that it keeps your immune system performing well! So if your glutamine reserves are low and you don't get enough rest, you risk being more vulnerable!
L-carnitine
Essential amino acid, L-carnitine is very popular in the world of bodybuilding because it allows to do 2 things: Burn fat and transform it into energy. You will have understood, this energy will be useful for you to increase your strength tenfold and thus achieve great performances! You understand now why it can be interesting to consume it!
The BCAA
Concerning the BCAA, it is rather a connection of 3 essential amino acids. If you are a fan of bodybuilding, you have certainly heard about it! BCAAs, which you can consume before or after your workout, allow you to produce hormones that promote fat loss and muscle gain, avoiding the depletion of your protein reserves in your body. Another interesting point is that BCAAs can be useful to minimize muscle loss if you stop training for a period of time for various reasons!
